Scott Burkell and Paul Loesel's cabaret act, Love Songs and Other Crap, popular at New York City's Don't Tell Mama earlier in 1999, returns to the nightspot 6 PM Dec. 5.

New songs by singer-lyricist Burkell (once of Broadway's Titanic) and pianist-composer Loesel have been added to the act, and Burkell has a new scene with actress June Havoc (interacting, as he did earlier in the year, with an old how-to-act recording called "Co-Star" featuring Havoc).

The collaborators have collected a number of songs over the years, some heard at the professional Barn Theatre in Augusta, MI, where Burkell was a favorite summer-season actor and Loesel was music director for several years. Other "Barnies" over the years have included Robert Newman ("Guiding Light"), Marin Mazzie (Kiss Me, Kate) and Jonathan Larson (Rent).

Burkell and Loesel's musical, Six of One, had a reading in New York in fall 1998 with Marin Mazzie and others. It is still in development, according to Loesel, who said a demo was recorded in late 1998.

Reservations are recommended. Don't Tell Mama is at 343 W. 46th Street (between Eighth and Ninth Avenues). Call (212) 757-0788. -- By Kenneth Jones
