Master Class takes place in a fictionalized master class at Julliard where famed opera diva Maria Callas, late in her career, fluctuates between berating the students who are performing for her and sharing memories from her career with the audience. Other plays by Terrence McNally include the opera-Callas related Lisbon Traviata as well as Love! Valour! Compassion!, Frankie and Johnny in the Claire de Lune and Corpus Christi.
