The production was originally booking to Feb. 28. Ludwig's adaptation had received its world premiere at Houston's Alley Theatre in May 2007, directed by the theatre's artistic director, Gregory Boyd. This new production is directed by Sean Holmes, who staged the Old Vic's revival of The Entertainer last year, and is currently also represented in London by his production of Joe Orton's Loot at the Tricycle. In the New Year, Holmes will succeed David Farr as artistic director of the Lyric Hammersmith.

Treasure Island stars Keith Allen, who plays The Sheriff of Nottingham in the new BBC TV series "Robin Hood." Though this production marks his commercial West End debut, he has previously appeared onstage in the the double-bill of Harold Pinter's Celebration and The Room, seen at the Almeida in 2000, and before that he also appeared in a National Theatre revival of Pinter's The Homecoming in 1997.

Ludwig's other work includes the plays Lend Me a Tenor and Moon Over Buffalo and the book for the musical Crazy for You, all of which have been seen both in the West End and on Broadway, and the Bristol Old Vic's 2006 stage adaptation of The Three Musketeers.

Treasure Island is produced by Brian Eastman and Andrew Welch.
