News Ma-Yi Benefit Will Honor Hwang; Gambatese and Llana to Perform The Ma-Yi Theater Company will honor the Tony Award-winning playwright David Henry Hwang with its Leader in Arts award at its seventh annual benefit on April 23 at 6:30 PM at the New York Hilton's Trianon Ballroom.

Broadway stars Jenn Gambatese (Tarzan) and Jose Llana (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) will perform. The event will also include scenes from Ma-Yi's production of Keo Woolford's play I Land, which opens April 29 at the Culture Project. The benefit will also honor Loida Nicolas Lewis, a best-selling author and the Asian-American CEO of TLC Beatrice, with the Leader in Community Service award.

Hwang is the writer of plays such as M. Butterfly, Golden Child, FOB, The Dance and the Railroad and the upcoming Yellow Face.
