News MAC Accepting Submissions for Dottie Burman and John Wallowitch Songwriting Awards The Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs is soliciting submissions for the 5th Annual Dottie Burman and John Wallowitch Songwriting Awards.

The submission period runs through Sept. 30. Judging takes place Oct. 1-Nov. 3.

Contestants do not need to be a MAC member to submit for the awards.

The winners of each of these awards will have one of their submitted songs presented at MAC’s annual Songwriters’ event: The 2nd Annual "MAC Presents They Write The Songs," which will be held Nov. 17 at 4 PM. 

The recipient of the Dottie Burman award wins $500 and a certificate, as well as the opportunity for one of their songs will be performed at the MAC event "MAC presents They Write The Songs" at Engleman Recital Hall at Baruch College Nov. 17.

To qualify, songwriters must be 40 years of age or older, cannot have received significant recognition in the music industry and may not have previously won an award from MAC for songwriting. The songwriter must submit three songs (MP3 only) via e-mail with accompanying lyrics in the body of the e-mail only. No PDF or Word attachments or links. The submission e-mail address is [email protected]. Each song should be emailed in a separate e-mail, and each e-mail subject line should include the contestant's last name and song title. Each e-mail must also contain the contestant's name, the name(s) of any collaborators and a contact phone number.

Collaborations are eligible, provided that all of the collaborators meet the qualifications, all three submitted songs were written by the same writing team and none of the collaborators is also submitting individually or is a member of another writing team that is entering into the competition.
