News Mackie, Armstrong, Corey and Hugo Complete Public Theater's Bacchae Cast Anthony Mackie, who recently appeared in the Public Theater production of Tracey Scott Wilson's The Good Negro, has joined the cast of the Shakespeare in the Park's upcoming staging of The Bacchae.

Mackie (Drowning Crow, Topdog/Underdog, "The Hurt Locker") will star as Pentheus, opposite previously announced Tony nominee Jonathan Groff (Spring Awakening, The Singing Forest, "Taking Woodstock") as Dionysus, Tony nominee André De Shields as Teiresias, George Bartenieff as Cadmus, Karen Kandel as Chorus Leader, Joan MacIntosh as Agave, Steven Rishard as Cowherd and Rocco Sisto as Messenger. Newly added chorus members include April Armstrong, Sullivan Corey and Tara Hugo, who join Marisa Echeverria, Colleen Fitzpatrick, Jennifer Ikeda, Jennifer Nikki Kidwell, Alexa Kryzaniwsky, Vella Lovell, Nana Mensah, Ereni Sevasti, Elena Shaddow and Han Tang.

JoAnne Akalaitis directs Nicholas Ruddall's 90-minute adaptation of Eurpides' work, which boasts an original score by Philip Glass. The Bacchae runs Aug. 11-30 and officially opens Aug. 24.

The Delacorte staging will have scenic design by John Conklin, costume design by Kaye Voyce and lighting design by Jennifer Tipton.
