Macy will play a movie producer who convinces a studio to spend $100 million on an action adventure about 19th-century British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli.
Shooting will begin in South Africa in March. After the shoot, Macy will direct the comedy "Keep Coming Back."
Macy co-founded the Atlantic with David Mamet and created roles in several of Mamet's original productions, including Bobby in American Buffalo and Lang in The Water Engine. In New York he created roles in such Off-Broadway productions as Baby with the Bathwater; The Dining Room; Life During Wartime; Mr. Gogol and Mr. Preen; Bodies, Rest and Motion; and Mamet's Prairie du Chien, Oh Hell and Oleanna. Other stage credits in New York include the Broadway production of Our Town.
Macy earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for "Fargo." He has also starred in "Bobby," "Edmond," "The Cooler," "Magnolia," "Pleasantville," "A Civil Action," "Boogie Nights," "Wag the Dog," "Air Force One," "Mr. Holland's Opus" and "Radio Days." He also co-wrote with Schachter and starred in the television films "A Slight Case of Murder," "Door to Door" (Emmy Awards for writing and acting) and "The Wool Cap."
