"Mad Men" Star Rich Sommer Joins Cast of Upcoming Off-Broadway Revival of Sam Shepard's Buried Child | Playbill

News "Mad Men" Star Rich Sommer Joins Cast of Upcoming Off-Broadway Revival of Sam Shepard's Buried Child The New Group has announced full casting for the revival of Sam Shepard’s Buried Child, opening in February 2016. The production, helmed by Scott Elliott, is set to feature "Mad Men" star Rich Sommer (Harvey), Broadway vet Larry Pine (Casa Valentina), "House of Cards" actor Paul Sparks and Nat Wolff (Paper Towns).

They join the previously announced Taissa Farmiga ("American Horror Story"), Ed Harris ("Apollo 13," "The Truman Show") and Amy Madigan ("Twice in a Lifetime"), for performances set to begin Feb. 2. An official opening night is scheduled for Feb. 17; the limited engagement will play through March 13 at The Pershing Square Signature Center. Buried Child launched Shepard to international fame following its critically acclaimed debut in 1978, and moved him beyond the Off-Broadway and regional world where he had been produced since the 1960's. Last seen on Broadway in 1996, Buried Child follows Vince, who returns to his idyllic childhood farm with his girlfriend, only to discover emotionally and physically crippled family members and a host of secrets. The Broadway revival was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Play.

"Dodge (Harris) and Halie (Madigan) are barely hanging on to their farmland and their sanity while looking after their two wayward grown sons Tilden (Sparks) and Bradley (Sommer)," states a description of the play from the New Group. "When their grandson Vince (Wolff) arrives with his girlfriend Shelly (Farmiga), no one seems to recognize him, and confusion abounds. As Vince tries to make sense of the chaos, the rest of the family dances around a deep, dark secret. This wildly poetic and cuttingly funny take on the American family drama gleefully pulls apart the threadbare deluded visions of our families and our homes." Pine will play Father Dewis.

Tickets to Buried Child go on sale to the public Dec. 7 and will be available online at TheNewGroup.org, or through Ticket Central at (212) 279-4200. The show will take place at The Pershing Square Signature Center in The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre, located at 480 West 42nd St.
