Classic Arts News Male Dancer, Sans Tutu, Will Dance Role of Snow Queen in Tajikistan In the Tajikistan state ballet's production of The Snow Queen, a ballet based on the tale by Hans Christian Anderson, the title role will be played by a male dancer, Reuters reports.
An employee of the Sadriddin Aini, the theater in Dushanbe where the ballet is being staged, said that there were no ballerinas in the company who could handle the difficult role.

For the role, dancer Alexander Bakhman must learn to dance in pointe shoes. According to Reuters, he will not have to wear a tutu.
