News Mamet TV Pilot Greenlit By CBS CBS has given the go-ahead to a new television drama created by David Mamet and Shawn Ryan.

Variety reports that the eye network has okayed "The Unit," a series based on Eric Haney's book "Inside Delta Force: The Story of America's Elite Counterterrorist Unit," which concerns the lives of members of an anti terrorism unit. Mamet will write the episodes, and he and Ryan will be the executive producers. About the project, Ryan previously told The Hollywood Reporter, "This project will deal in a very realistic way with the people on the ground who are in charge of keeping us safe in a very dangerous age. But it will also deal with the dramas they face at home with their wives and girlfriends and with the commanders who give them orders. This is about the men who take the orders and do the dirty work and the baggage that they carry from doing that kind of work."

Ryan also added, "There's a real veracity that Eric brought to his book that we hope to bring to the screen. We want to show people who these men are. After reading this book, David and I both felt very comforted by the fact that these kinds of people are out there."

David Mamet is the author of Glengarry Glen Ross, American Buffalo, The Water Engine/Mr. Happiness, Speed-the-Plow and The Old Neighborhood. He is the recipient of a Pulitzer Prize for Drama for Glengarry Glen Ross. He was also Tony-nominated for both Glengarry Glen Ross and Speed-the Plow. A production of his play A Life in the Theatre recently opened in London starring Patrick Stewart and Joshua Jackson.
