There's nothing autumn-ish about that sunny mega-hit Mamma Mia!, but the month of October brings anniversary parties to companies of the ABBA-inspired musical all over the world.
Among the anniversaries:
Oct. 1 - The first national tour, currently starring Dee Hoty and playing in Los Angeles, marked performance number 800.
Oct. 2 — The second national tour marked performance number 250.
Oct. 4 — The Toronto company marks performance number 1,000.
Oct. 18 — The Broadway company celebrates their first anniversary at the Cadillac Winter Garden Theatre.
Oct. 31 — The London company marks performance 1,500.
Additionally, the first Japanese company begins rehearsals Oct. 14 in Tokyo. Mamma Mia! companies are soon expected in Hamburg, Germany and, in February 2003, at a sit-down production at Las Vegas' Mandalay Bay Resort. Mamma Mia! collects a couple dozen hit songs by the Swedish supergroup ABBA and shapes them around the story of a single mother and her young daughter's marriage on a Greek isle. While the daughter plans her future with the love of her life, she and her mother are haunted by three different men who may or may not be her daughter's father.
