Amateur licensing rights to the ABBA musical Mamma Mia! are now available to organizations across North America through Music Theatre International. The news arrives on the heels of the Swedish pop group's announcement that they have reunited to record two tracks—their first new songs in 35 years.

MTI first announced its acquisition of live performance rights for the hit franchise in 2014.

The jukebox musical comedy that incorporates songs from the pop group ABBA arrived on Broadway in 2001. The long-running hit ended its run in September 2015 after 5,758 performances.

Catherine Johnson wrote the book to the musical, which follows a young-bride-to-be’s quest to discover the identity of her father in time for her wedding. Woven into the story are such ABBA hits as “Dancing Queen,” “The Winner Takes It All,” “Money, Money, Money,” and “Take a Chance on Me.”

The musical was adapted for the screen, starring Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried, in 2008. A sequel, titled Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, is set to premiere this summer.

“It is no surprise that this show with its wonderful score is in high demand from our customers,” said Drew Cohen, President and CEO of MTI in a statement. “For years, MTI’s licensing representatives have politely encouraged our customers to be patient and the demand for Mamma Mia!continues to be intense. Given that this iconic show has become part of the fabric of musical theater culture, it will be exciting to see how our customers design their original productions using the now-classic material at the heart of the show.”
