If a quasi-autobiographical Mandy Patinkin sitcom was on your bingo card for the year, congratulations—you just won. The Evita Tony winner and his wife, actor-writer Kathryn Grody, will star in a scripted comedy series for Showtime inspired by the couple's viral Instagram and TikTok videos. Seasoned reportedly filmed a pilot last summer, and has now received a six-episode series order, according to a report in Deadline. A premiere date has not been set.
Drawing from their very real marriage, the series will see Patinkin and Grody co-starring as a loving but somewhat eccentric married couple. The pair's son, Gideon Grody-Patinkin (reportedly the mastermind behind the duo's social media popularity), is co-creator and executive producer along with Ewen Wright. Tony Hernandez, Brooke Posch, Isabel Richardson, Patinkin, and Grody are also executive producing, with JAX Media producing for Showtime.
The couple share an Instagram and TikTok account and often post together. A recent video featured the pair playing and being somewhat befuddled by a bird identification board game. We've all been there.
Tony winner Patinkin has starred in Broadway productions of Evita and The Wild Party, and originated the title role in Sunday in the Park with George, opposite Bernadette Peters. On screen, he starred as Saul Berenson in Showtime's Homeland, as well as The Good Fight, Life Itself, and Wonder. Two-time Drama Desk nominee Grody starred in the solo show A Mom’s Life, as well as Top Girls and The Marriage of Bette and Boo.
