News Margulies and Krupa to Star in Centerstage's Murder of Isaac Casting has been announced for Baltimore Centerstage's upcoming production of Motti Lerner's drama The Murder of Isaac.

Directed by Centerstage Artistic Director Irene Lewis, The Murder of Isaac will play The Head Theater Feb. 3-March 12, 2006. David Margulies and Olek Krupa will head the cast as, respectively, Binder and Yuda. The company will also feature Scotty Bloch as Lola, Lise Bruneau as Shulamit, Charlotte Cohn as Talia, Kelli Danaker as Female Guard, Dan Manning as Boris, Chaz Mena as Avi, Tzahi Moskovitz as Avner, Benjamin Pelteson as Yigal, Jeffrey Ware as Eliahu, Gordon Joseph Weiss as Mendel and Joe Zaloom as Natan.

Lerner's play, which has been translated Anthony Berris, examines "man's eternal struggles with God, fear, and aggression through the prism of a hospital ward for Israeli Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder sufferers." According to production notes, "Yitzhak Rabin has been assassinated, hopes for peace are foundering, and the inhabitants of an Israeli trauma ward search desperately for a way to make their voices heard. What they devise — a passionately contentious enactment of the chaos inside and outside the hospital — forms the core of [the play]."

Playwright Motti Lerner explains in a statement, "The play is about the collective fears and anxieties of Israeli society, but it's also an attempt to discover why people in general are still ready to take part in wars. We are trying to understand why our society hasn't found better ways to handle our affairs, why it still sees war as an option. The role of God, which was originally meant to bring peace and order into our lives, is now the source of irrational fanaticism and cruel dehumanization."

The creative team comprises Christopher Barecca (scenic designer), Candice Donnelly (costume designer), Mimi Jordan Sherin (lighting designer), David Budries (sound designer), Eric Svejcar (composer/musical director/musician), Daniel Feyer (assistant musical director/musician), J. Allen Suddeth (fight director) and Gavin Witt (production dramaturg).

David Margulies has been seen on Broadway in Wonderful Town, 45 Seconds From Broadway, Angels in America, Conversations with My Father, Brighton Beach Memoirs and Zalmen or the Madness of God. Olek Krupa was seen on Broadway in The Deep Blue Sea and Metro and in the films "The Italian Job," "Behind Enemy Lines," "Brooklyn Babylon," "Thirteen Days," "Blue Streak," "No Vacancy," "The Opportunists," "Simply Irresistible" and "Eraser." The Head Theater at Centerstage is located at 700 N. Calvert St., Mt. Vernon, in Baltimore, MD. Tickets, priced $10-$60, are available by calling (410) 332-0033.
