Like the little engine that could, Emmy-Award-winner Jean Stapleton has been faithfully pulling her one-woman show, Eleanor: Her Secret Journey higher and higher. Though recently extended through March 5 at San Francisco's Marines Theatre, the venue now reports that as of Feb. 21 the show has been extended a second time and will now run through March 12.
The theatre credits both extensions to Stapleton's performance and her perseverance.
"She keeps doing these little things on radio and television," a theatre source told Playbill On-Line, "and the phones just go crazy."
As reported earlier, Stapleton performs the title role Eleanor: Her Secret Journey at the Marines Memorial Theatre in San Francisco. An Emmy Award winning actress, Stapleton created the classic role of Edith Bunker on television's "All in the Family."
In Eleanor, the actress revisits the stage role she established in the world premiere of Rhoda Lerman's play in February of 1998 at the Helen Hayes Performing Arts Center in Nyack, NY. Tickets are $30 - $50. Marines Memorial Theatre is located at 609 Sutter Street, 2nd Floor, at the corner of Mason Street in San Francisco.
