PlayBlog Marissa Jaret Winokur Stands Up to Cancer (Video) Tony Award winner Marissa Jaret Winokur is standing up to cancer and celebrating her tenth year cancer-free.

The actress was diagnosed with cervical cancer in August 2000 while simultaneously in negotiations for the leading lady in the new musical Hairspray. In between trips to doctor's appointments in Los Angeles and meetings with producers in New York, Winokur would not mention her personal struggle, afraid that she wouldn't land the job. Shortly after her second surgery in December 2000, the actress received the call that she would be playing Tracy Turnblad, a role that would later win her the 2003 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical.

Over ten years later, Winokur is now married to Judah Miller and the mother of soon-to-be three-year-old son Zev Isaac. Here, at the 2010 Stand Up To Cancer event, Winokur shares the message that "cancer doesn't care" and explains that anyone can be diagnosed with the disease. She then promises that the disease is curable and that she is "living, breathing proof" that dreams can still come true.
