Presented by the League of American Theatres and Producers and the American Theatre Wing, the annual awards show will once again be broadcast on CBS-TV. Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss/White Cherry Entertainment will be the executive producers of the 2006 Tony Awards. Weiss will also serve as director of the telecast. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the awards, which celebrates the best of Broadway. The first Tony Awards ceremony was held April 6, 1947, in the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria.
Nominations for the 2006 Tony Awards will be announced Tuesday May 16, 2006. The cut-off date for eligibility for the 2005-2006 theatre season is May 10.
