Kenneth Branagh stars in the title role of Tom Stoppard's new version of the Anton Chekhov drama. Directed by Michael Grandage, this marks the beginning of the Donmar Warehouse's year-long residency at Wyndham's Theatre. Ivanov is the story of a man who cannot bear to sit home with his dying wife, whom he no longer feels passion for. Instead, he finds company, cards and a lovely young woman at the neighboring estate. When his wife, who had brutally reproached him for his conduct, finally dies, he reluctantly agrees to marry the younger woman who is trying to change him. He is tormented by his own moral deterioration and hopes to find escape in suicide.
