The same blockbuster creative them behind the original Broadway production that won a record 12 Tony Awards brought this Mel Brooks-Thomas Meehan musical into a somewhat bumpy fruition last year. Richard Dreyfuss was slated to star as Max Bialystock but was forced to leave the production days before previews began. Original New York star Nathan Lane quickly stepped in and saw the show through its opening weeks.
