The opening night program on September 11 wll feature Lamentation Variations by Azme Barton, Larry Keigwin and Richard Move; and Graham's own Embattled Garden, Night Journey and From The Horse's Mouth, the last billed as "the heart and history of Graham told in stories and dance by illustrious alumni."
The remaining performances revolve around three program pairings: Diversion of Angels and Night Journey, Cave of the Heart and Acts of Light, and Appalachian Spring and sketches from Chronicle.
The oldest and most celebrated contemporary dance company in the U.S., the Martha Graham Dance Company America was founded in 1926 by dancer and choreographer Martha Graham, and has since received acclaim in over fifty countries. It has served as the training ground for Merce Cunningham, Erick Hawkins, Pearl Lang, Elisa Monte, Paul Taylor, Glen Tetley and Pascal Rioult, and has commissioned works from Twyla Tharp, Robert Wilson, Susan Stroman, Lucinda Childs and Maurice B_jart.
