LOS ANGELES -- A new play about Martha Graham's last days is dancing up a storm at the Lee Strasberg Theatre in Los Angeles.

The Next Step, written by Jean Colonomos, a former modern-dancer, is a two-hander about Graham and her sister in old age. "It deals with the consequences of loss and the hope of redemption," said a company spokesperson.

Pamela Gordon and Jenifer Parker play the sisters under the direction of Jon Lawrence Rivera, head of Playwrights' Arena. The producing organization just celebrated its sixth anniversary and is dedicated to discovering and nurturing local playwrights.

Colonomos' world premiere has choreography by Kay Cole, sets by Caroline Halili and costumes by Rory Cunningham.

Performances are Thursday - Saturday 8 PM, through Aug. 29. Tickets are $12 with student, senior and group rates. The Strasberg Theatre is at 7936 Santa Monica Blvd. Call (323) 960 7756. -- By Willard Manus
