News Martin Rayner Is Scrooge in Ford's Theatre's Christmas Carol Dec. 2-28 While renovations continue at historic Ford's Theatre in Washington, DC, the not-for-profit institution will present its annual production of A Christmas Carol at DC's Lansburgh Theatre.

Performances of the Charles Dickens story — here titled A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story of Christmas — will play Dec. 2-28. The Lansburgh Theatre is at 450 7th St. NW.

The staging is in its fifth season. Martin Rayner returns to reprise his role as Ebenezer Scrooge. The play is adapted by Michael Wilson with original direction by Matt August and original staging recreated by Mark Ramont.

Ford's unique production of A Christmas Carol includes "an appearance" by Charles Dickens, who visited Washington during the public reading tour of the novel. "But the spotlight shines most brightly on the three ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future, who bear a striking resemblance to the victims of Scrooge's daily wrath," according to production notes.

In his 1843 preface, Dickens wrote, "I have endeavoured in this Ghostly little book, to raise the Ghost of an Idea, which shall not put my readers out of humour with themselves, with each other, with the season, or with me. May it haunt their houses pleasantly."

In addition to Rayner, other cast members include Clinton Brandhagen, Michael Bunce, Steven Carpenter, Michael John Casey, Emily Cochrane, Katie Culligan, Elliot Dash, Michael Feldsher, Carlos Gonzalez, Michael Goodwin, Jewel Greenberg, Claudia Miller, Julia Proctor, Suzanne Richard, Kimberly Schraf, Harry A. Winter. The young cast members include Meagan Bannigan, Michael Bannigan, Benjamin Cook, Cheyenne Cummings, Julian Ivey, Jacqueline Kempa, Jacob Land, Matthew Nee, Brittany O'Grady, WeiAnne Reidy, Nadia Ross and Abby Wallisch.
