Barbara Dana's family comedy, War in Paramus, about a New Jersey family divided over political upheaval circa 1970, begins previews Oct. 7 at the Abingdon Theatre Company's June Havoc Theatre in New York City.

Austin Pendleton directs Matthew Arkin in the Abingdon troupe's world premiere. Opening is Oct. 11.

The work is billed as "a charming and compelling record of an American family torn by the clash of ideals in the era between Woodstock and Watergate in Paramus, New Jersey."

According to Abingdon production notes, "In the heart of this swelling suburbia, 15-year-old Thelma Gardner struggles to save her identity against an army of inadequate role models. As her family focuses on her sister's wedding, Thelma finds her own way to combat this culture of 'compromised' values."

The cast features Matthew Arkin (Moonlight & Magnolias, Dinner with Friends), Jeremy Beiler, Kate Bushmann, Gene Gallerano, David Holmes, Anne Letscher and Lisa McCormick.

Director Pendleton is the actor, director and playwright whose play, Orson's Shadow, is also playing Off-Broadway. Michael Schweikardt is the set designer, Wade Laboissonniere is the costume designer, David Castaneda is the lighting designer, David Margolin Lawson is the sound designer and Rick Sordelet is the fight choreographer. Mary E. Leach is the production stage manager.

Abingdon's Off-Broadway home is at 312 West 36th Street on the first floor. Performances of War in Paramus are Tuesday-Saturday at 7:30 PM with weekend matinees on Saturday at 2 PM and Sunday at 3 PM.
