The Irish Repertory Theatre has announced that two-time Tony winner Matthew Broderick will star in its spring revival of Conor McPherson’s Shining City. The production will inaugurate IRT’s newly renovated theatre in Chelsea.

Joining Broderick will be Billy Carter, Lisa Dwan and James Russell. Directed by Ciarán O’Reilly, McPherson’s haunting play will begin performances May 17 with an official opening slated for June 9. The engagement is scheduled to run Off-Broadway through July 3.

Shining City tells the story of a widower who begins to see his wife’s ghost. The play had its world premiere in London in 2004 and transferred to Broadway in 2006. The IRT staging marks the first revival since its Broadway debut a decade ago.

The production has scenic design by Charlie Corcoran, costume design by Martha Hally and lighting design by Michael Gottlieb. Original music is by Ryan Rumery.

The Irish Repertory Theatre returns to its home in Chelsea, located at 132 West 22nd Street, after an 18-month renovation.
