News Matthew James Thomas Will Play Additional Stops on Pippin Tour As previously reported, Matthew James Thomas, who originated the role of Pippin in the current Broadway revival of the Stephen Schwartz musical, will step into that role when the national tour of the hit musical launches Sept. 6 in Denver.

Thomas, who also played Peter Parker in Broadway's Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark, will play the entire Denver engagement. Kyle Selig, who was scheduled to star in the title role, is taking a medical leave of absence for vocal rest.

It has also been announced that Thomas will play both the San Francisco and Los Angeles engagements of the musical. Performances in San Francisco are scheduled for Sept. 23-Oct. 19 at the SHN Golden Gate Theatre; Los Angeles audiences will enjoy the musical at the Hollywood Pantages Oct. 21-Nov. 9.

This all-new production of Roger O. Hirson and Schwartz’s Pippin is directed by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus and features choreography by Tony Award nominee Chet Walker in the style of Bob Fosse and circus creation by Gypsy Snider of the Montreal-based circus company Les 7 doigts de la main (also known as 7 Fingers).

The touring cast also includes Lucie Arnaz as Berthe (in Los Angeles Andrea Martin will re-create her Tony-winning performance as grandmother Berthe), Sasha Allen as Leading Player, Tony Award winner John Rubinstein as Charles, Sabrina Harper as Fastrada and Kristine Reese as Catherine with Skyler Adams, Sascha Bachman, Bradley Benjamin, Callan Bergman, Dmitrious Bistrevsky, Mark Burrell, Mathew deGuzman, Fernando Dudka, Mirela Golinska, Kelsey Jamieson, Preston Jamieson, Lisa Karlin, Alan Kelly, Melodie Lamoreux, Zachary Mackiewicz, Lucas Schultz, Tory Trowbridge, Mackenzie Warren and Borris York.

With a book by Hirson and music and lyrics by Schwartz, the production features music supervision and arrangements by Nadia DiGiallonardo, orchestrations by Tony Award winner Larry Hochman, scenic design by Tony Award winner Scott Pask, costume design by Tony Award nominee Dominique Lemieux, lighting design by Tony Award winner Kenneth Posner and sound design by Tony Award nominees Jonathan Deans and Garth Helm. Pippin plays The Buell Theatre Sept. 6-20.
