Broadway News Max von Essen to Play Final Performance in Broadway’s Anastasia The Tony Award nominee took over the role of Gleb in the Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty musical in December 2017.

Tony Award nominee Max von Essen will play his final performance in the Broadway production of Anastasia December 16 at the Broadhurst Theare.

Von Essen took over the role of Gleb in December 2017. Ramin Karimloo (Les Misérables, Love Never Dies) originated the role in the Broadway musical that opened in April 2016.

The character of the Soviet Officer torn between duty to his country and the mysterious young woman he pursues, was created for the Broadway adaptation of the 1997 Fox feature film that is scored by Tony Award winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. The show’s book is by Tony-winning playwright Terrence McNally.

A replacement will be announced in the coming weeks.

The company is led by Christy Altomare, Zach Adkins, John Bolton, Judy Kaye, and Vicki Lewis.

The cast also includes Lauren Blackman, Kathryn Boswell, Maria Briggs, Kyle Brown, Justin Scott Brown, Kristen Smith Davis, Colby Dezelick, Janet Dickinson, Wes Hart, Anika Lore Hatch, Ken Krugman, Dustin Layton, Brian Munn, Delilah Rose Pellow, James A. Pierce III, Molly Rushing, Tally Sessions, Jennifer Smith, Lyrica Woodruff, and Kelli Youngman.
