Grunge rocker Courtney Love was quoted by the Los Angeles Times as saying not only that she'd like to play Hamlet, but that men she dates should be able to play the role as well. Interviewed in connection with her new film The People vs. Larry Flynt, in which she plays the porn publisher's wife, Love told the newspaper, "Too bad I'm not a guy because all I want to do is play Hamlet . . . It's such a sexy, androgynous part. All the guys I go out with have to be able to play Hamlet."
She may want to think that over. Hamlet's most famous speech, "To be or not to be," is his contemplation of suicide. Love's late husband, rocker Kurt Cobain, took his own life.
