Gretchen Cryer — of I'm Getting My Act Together and Taking It on the Road fame — will host the 8 PM concert, which will feature musical direction by Patrick Brady. The evening will boast three women who have long associations with the celebrated composing team: Sally Mayes and Lynne Wintersteller, who were both in the Maltby and Shire revue Closer Than Ever; and Loni Ackerman, who was in the first Maltby/Shire revue, Starting Here, Staring Now.
Also scheduled to perform are Benjamin Schrader and Gwen Hollander, who were recently seen in the Barrington Stage Company's production of See Rock City.
In addition to talking about their careers, Maltby and Shire will also perform several songs, including two from their newest musical, Take Flight, which made its world premiere in London. Together, Maltby and Shire have also penned the musicals Baby and Big.
The Broadway Close Up series will conclude Dec. 8 with the annual Bound for Broadway concert. Liz Callaway will again host the evening, which will feature songs from five new musicals and interviews with the writers of these new shows.
