The completion of the 1999-2000 State Theater Company season comes with the Sept. 24 closing of Martin McDonagh's The Beauty Queen of Leenane, winner of four Tony Awards. Performances began Aug. 25. Don Toner (The Weir, Dancing at Lughnasa) directs the Austin, TX, mounting.

Set in Ireland's remote west country, The Beauty Queen of Leenane finds middle-aged spinster Maureen still caring for her elderly domineering mother. She sees escape through their returning neighbor Pato, who may be her last chance for love -- if her mother doesn't prevent him from claiming her. Beauty Queen is a part of McDonagh's Leenane trilogy, which also includes A Skull in Connemara and Broadway-produced The Lonesome West.

Jill Parker-Jones (Women Who Steal) stars as Maureen with Patricia Goldwater as Mag. Guy Changler Roberta as Ray and Dave Florek ("Grace Under Fire," "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air") as Pato round out the cast.

The design team features Richard Isackes (sets), Buffy Manners (costumes) and Steven Petrilli (lighting).
