McKean will reprise the role of doughnut shop owner Arthur Przybyszewski that he originated in the play's Steppenwolf Theatre debut.
Opening at the Music Box — recent home of Letts' Pulitzer Prize-winning August: Osage County — is scheduled for Oct. 1.
Tina Landau directs.
Tickets for Superior Donuts are now on sale through Telecharge.com or by calling (212) 239-6200. The Music Box Theatre box office will open Aug. 19.
According to Steppenwolf, "Arthur Przybyszewski owns a decrepit donut shop in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago. Franco Wicks, a black teenager who is his only employee, wants to change the shop for the better. This provocative comedy, set in the heart of one of Chicago's most diverse communities, explores the challenges of embracing the past and the redemptive power of friendship."
The Steppenwolf production of Superior Donuts is produced on Broadway by Jeffrey Richards, Jean Doumanian and Jerry Frankel, the producing team behind Steppenwolf's August: Osage County.
The small-scale 2008 workplace play by Pulitzer Prize winner Letts was nominated for the Joseph Jefferson Award for its summer 2008 world-premiere run at Steppenwolf's Downstairs Theatre, the same venue where eventual Pulitzer Prize winner and Tony Award winner August was born a year earlier.
