News Meara and Jones Read Guare in 'Food for Thought' Series, March 22 The March 22 edition of the ongoing "Food for Thought" play reading series in Manhattan will feature Ann Meara and Simon Jones enacting Day for Surprises and The Loveliest Afternoon of the Year, by John Guare. The event, held at the National Arts Club off Gramercy Park in Manhattan at 1 PM, is part of a lunchtime series which began last fall with the new Tony Kushner play, East Coast Ode to Howard Jarvis.

The March 22 edition of the ongoing "Food for Thought" play reading series in Manhattan will feature Ann Meara and Simon Jones enacting Day for Surprises and The Loveliest Afternoon of the Year, by John Guare. The event, held at the National Arts Club off Gramercy Park in Manhattan at 1 PM, is part of a lunchtime series which began last fall with the new Tony Kushner play, East Coast Ode to Howard Jarvis.

Meara has appeared in many Broadway and Off-Broadway productions, as well as writing a couple plays herself: After-Play and Down the Garden Path. Jones is now performing in Off-Broadway's Passion Play.

Marisa Tomei, David Strathairn and Donna Murphy will be featured in future readings drawn from the work of short story writer Grace Paley, and Richard Wesley.

The events include a discussion with the playwright and actors, as well as a gourmet box lunch. The cost is $27. Susan Charlotte, Harold Thau, Barry Minsky and Kenneth Martin in association with the National Arts Club produce.

Announced readings are as follows: • Thursday, March 22: Day for Surprises and The Loveliest Afternoon of the Year, by John Guare, starring Anne Meara and Simon Jones
• Monday, March 26: Gettin It Together, by Richard Wesley, actors tba, and Boundary County Idaho, by Tom Topor, starring David Strathairn
• Tuesday, March 27, An Interest in Life, by Grace Paley, starring Donna Murphy, and The Use of Force, by William Carlos Williams, starring Shawn Elliott
• Wednesday, March 29: Day for Surprises and The Loveliest Afternoon of the Year, by John Guare, starring Marisa Tomei
