News Meet Spring Awakening Composer Sheik at LIFEbeat Charity AfterParty Fans of Spring Awakening composer Duncan Sheik can meet the singer-songwriter following his May 15 concert at a special LIFEbeat afterparty.

The event will take place at D'Or (located inside Amalia at 204 West 55th Street), following the 8 PM concert at the Concert Hall at the New York Society for Ethical Culture.

The non-profit organization LIFEbeat, the Music Industry Fights AIDS, is "dedicated to reaching America's youth with the message of HIV/AIDS prevention" by the mobilization of the music industry.

Commemorating its 15th year in the AIDS battle, LIFEbeat has relaunched its AfterParty Series, which during the 1990s included such artists as Sarah McLachlan, Tony Bennett, Jewel and Courtney Love.

The series will give "a limited number of fans the opportunity to join stars at an official post concert event where they can mingle with celebrities and industry bigwigs, enjoy complimentary cocktails, and party like a rock star," according to the announcement.

Composer Sheik created the current Broadway musical Spring Awakening with book writer-lyricist Steven Sater as well as the musical The Nightingale. The duo have also collaborated on Nero (Another Golden Rome), a Sater work with songs by Sheik. Sheik also composed the original scores for the feature films "A Home at the End of the World," "The Cake Eaters" and more. The minimum donation to attend is $10 in advance/$15 at the door. Doors open at 10 PM. Patrons (21 and over — with vaild government issued photo ID) can purchase advance tickets through SpinCycleNYC.com.
