The New York premiere of Indecent, a new play with music, written by Paula Vogel, created by Vogel and Rebecca Taichman, will begin previews at The Vineyard Theatre April 27.

The new work had its world premiere in October 2015 at Yale Repertory Theatre. The original cast is making the move Off-Broadway, including Katrina Lenk (Once), Mimi Lieber (Act One), Max Gordon Moore (Relatively Speaking), Tom Nelis (The Visit), Steven Rattazzi (The Fourth Sister), Richard Topol (Fish in the Dark) and Adina Verson (Him). Taichman returns to direct, and David Dorfman returns to choreograph.

The story of Indecent is inspired by the real-life controversy surrounding the 1923 Broadway production of Sholem Asch's God of Vengeance, the love story of two women. The reaction to Asch’s work was divided between those who considered it to be groundbreaking and by others as traitorous. “Indecent charts the history of an incendiary drama and the path of the artists who risked their careers and lives to perform it,” state press notes.
