"It Happens All the Time," according to press notes, "showcases a different side of Hilty. The repertoire is a significant step outside of both the musical theatre world in which Hilty initially found fame as well as her television character Ivy Lynn in 'Smash.'"
The Joe's Pub concerts promise "fresh interpretations of compositions by stellar songwriters including Aimee Mann and Damien Rice, among others."
"I want to show a different side of me because it's the first thing I've ever done that's just me and not attached to any character or story line," the actress said in an earlier statement. "Coming from a musical theatre background, everyone expects that I'd do a Broadway album or pop standards. 'Smash' changed all that. We did a completely different arrangement of 'Crazy Dreams' [on the show], and it resonated with a lot of people."
Hilty also recently made her Carnegie Hall debut with The New York Pops. Read Playbill.com's report from the concert.
