The Vineyard Theatre and Target Margin Theater co-production begins previews Off-Broadway Oct. 22 toward an opening set for Nov. 4 for a limited run currently slated through Nov. 27.

People Are Wrong! which also features musicians of The Loser's Lounge is billed a "cautionary tale of a young New York couple who move to the country." The couple employ a landscape artist who turns out to be the leader of a cult. The show encompasses wedding planning, alien visitation, flashbacks to rock festivals and journeys to the other dimensions.

The work marks the stage debuts of composer-lyricists Julia Greenberg and Robin Goldwasser as well as star Flansburgh — a singer/songwriter known for his work (with John Linnell) as the rock band They Might Be Giants. The rock musical was developed in concert versions at Joe's Pub and P.S. 122.

Target Margin artistic director David Herskovits (Obie Award winner for his direction of Mamba's Daughters) will stage the work. Flansburgh leads a cast that also includes Todd Almond, Chris Anderson, David Driver, Robin Goldwasser, Erin Hill, Maggie Moore, Connie Petruk and Tricia Scotti.

The design team for People Are Wrong! features G.W. Mercier (scenic), Mattie Ullrich (costume), Lenore Doxsee (lighting) and Brian Speiser (sound). Choreography is handled by Jody Ripplinger. Jeremy Chatzky and Joe McGinty serve as co-musical directors. Greenberg co-wrote the music with Stephen Trask (Hedwig and the Angry Inch) for the New York Theater Workshop staging of Kate Moira Ryan's Cavedweller. As a singer, she has toured solo with Jill Sobule and can be heard on recordings including "Pitiful You" and "Past Your Eyes." Goldwasser has written the short work Harbingers Of Turpitude for The 24 Hour Plays. Her works include "Remember (Christmas)," recorded by Harry Nilsson.

The new season at the Vineyard Theatre also includes Humana Festival hit new black comedy, Gina Gionfriddo's After Ashley and the world premiere of Kirsten Childs' Miracle Brothers.
