News Meredith Visits Mary (Poppins) on Nov. 14 "Today" Show "Today" co-host Meredith Vieira will make a backstage visit to Mary Poppins on the Nov. 14 broadcast of the NBC morning show.

Vieira, formerly of "The View," will go behind the scenes of the new Disney musical, which is currently in previews at the New Amsterdam Theatre. NBC's "Today" airs in the metropolitan area on Channel 4 from 7-10 AM ET; the Poppins segment will air during the 8-9 AM hour. (The backstage visit was originally scheduled for broadcast Nov. 10.) Mary Poppins — a co-production between Disney and Cameron Mackintosh — began previews at the New Amsterdam Theatre Oct. 14. A hit in London, the new musical will officially open on Broadway Nov. 16. Ashley Brown, recently seen on Broadway as Belle in Beauty and the Beast, stars as Mary Poppins, the role immortalized on screen by Academy Award winner Julie Andrews. Gavin Lee, who starred as Bert in the London production, re-creates his role opposite Brown.

Richard Eyre directs Mary Poppins, which is based on P.L. Travers' original stories and the 1964 Disney film. The musical features choreography and co-direction by Matthew Bourne and boasts original songs from the film — with music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman — as well as new songs and additional music and lyrics by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. Julian Fellowes wrote the book.
