The Metropolitan Opera's weekly live radio broadcasts this season will include the world-premiere production of Tobias Picker's An American Tragedy and appearances by Plšcido Domingo, Anna Netrebko, Karita Mattila, Ren_e Fleming, Deborah Voigt, and other stars.

The Saturday afternoon broadcasts begin on December 17 with Verdi's Rigoletto, conducted by Asher Fisch and starring Netrebko as Gilda, and Rolando Villaz‹n as the Duke. A week later, on December 24, listeners will hear An American Tragedy, based on the Theodore Dreiser novel, just three weeks after its world premiere on December 2. The cast includes Patricia Racette, Susan Graham, Nathan Gunn, Dolora Zajick, and Jennifer Larmore; James Conlon conducts.

Other highlights include the Met's year-old production of Alfano's Cyrano de Bergerac, with Domingo in the title role, on February 4, 2006; the company's new production of Gounod's Rom_o et Juliette, with Ram‹n Vargas and Natalie Dessay in the title roles, on March 4; and a new production of Donizetti's Don Pasquale, conducted by music director James Levine and starring Netrebko and Juan Diego Fl‹rez, on April 15.

Fleming will appear in Massenet's Manon on April 8 and in Handel's Rodelinda on May 6; Voigt and Ben Heppner will star in Verdi's La forza del destino on March 11; Mattila and Heppner will appear together in Beethoven's Fidelio on April 1 and again in Wagner's Lohengrin on April 29.

On January 14, the Met will celebrate the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth with a broadcast of excerpts from archived Mozart performances.

The Met broadcasts are carried on more than 300 stations in the United States and reach 11 million people in 42 countries. Broadcasts begin at 1:30 p.m. ET except where noted below. Check local listings.
