The highly successful Mexico City revival of Gypsy starring Silvia Pinal (Mame, Hello, Dolly!) will see some cast changes beginning Oct. 22.

Pop star Alejandra Guzmán (Pinal's daughter) will give her final performance as Louise Oct. 18. Guzman, a very popular singer in Mexico and many Latin American countries, announced when the show opened last June that she would only stay for only 100 performances since her multiple concert engagements did not allow her to stay longer. Guzmán's main reason to play Louise in this revival of the classic musical was to share the stage with her mother.

Replacing Guzmán will be Irán Castillo, whose previous theatrical credits include the 1995 revival of Grease! (Vaselina!), in which she played Sandy opposite Alejandro (Blood Brothers) Ibarra's Danny.

Silvia Pinal, who is also producing the musical, told Playbill On-Line that Gypsy will also see a new June: Beauty and the Beast's Belle, Lolita Cortes. Cortes will play June just for a few weeks beginning Oct. 22, when Maru Dueñaz, who is currently playing that role, joins the cast of Jose Zorrilla's classic Spanish drama Don Juan Tenorio, staged every year in Mexico City as part of the celebrations of the Season of the Dead, better known in other parts of the world as Halloween.

Once the run of Tenorio is completed in late November, Dueñaz will return to Gypsy, which runs at the Teatro Silvia Pinal on Thurs. and Fri. at 8 PM; Sat. at 6 PM & 8:45 PM; and Sun at 4:30 PM & 7PM. For information and tickets call Ticketmaster Mexico at 011-52-5-325 9000. --By Claudio Carrera
