Mexican actress-producer Silvia Pinal will celebrate the 10th anniversary of her own theatre, the Teatro Silvia Pinal, with a cocktail party held at the theatre after the performance of Gypsy on Oct. 8.

Pinal recently returned to the stage in the first Mexican revival of the classic Styne-Sondheim-Robbins-Laurents Broadway musical "fable," starring as Rose opposite her real-life daughter, pop-star Alejandra Guzmán.

Silvia Pinal is one of Mexico's leading film, theatre and TV stars. She starred in the Mexican productions of Ring, Ring, Llama El Amor (Bells are Ringing) , Irma La Dulce (Irma La Douce) , Mame , Annie Es Un Tiro (Annie Get Your Gun) and Que tal, Dolly! (Hello, Dolly!) . In films, she starred hundreds of movies, from comedies to dramas, including the cult classics "Viridiana" and "El Angel Exterminador", both directed by the legendary Luis Buñuel.

Ten years ago, Pinal's dream of having a theatre of her own came true. She constructed one of Mexico's largest and most modern theatres, centrally located in Mexico City's Colonia Roma. The Teatro Silvia Pinal was inaugurated with the revival of Mame , which opened in 1985 at the Televiteatro 1 (which disappeared after 1985's disastrous earthquake), re-opened later at the Teatro Manolo Fabregas, toured throughout the country; and finally found it's final home at Pinal's own theatre.

The Silvia Pinal Theatre has housed some of Mexico's most important productions of the decade, including the Mexican premiere of Cats produced by Televisa, Cameron Mackintosh and The Really Useful Group; M. Butterfly starring Humberto Zurita and Hector Bonilla; Annie; A Chorus Line ; Viva México y Olé! , a Spanish Mexican musical revue starring Iran Eory; Singin' in the Rain ; La Cage Aux Folles , produced by Pinal; The Nutcracker ; and the 1997 revival of Evita directed by Larry Fuller. A commemorative engraved plate celebrating the 10th anniversary of the theatre will be unveiled by stars that have performed on that stage, including Maria del Sol (Cats ), Lolita Cortes (The Nutcracker ), Iran Eory (Viva México y Olé! ), Manuel Landeta (Cats ), Gustavo Rojo (La Cage Aux Folles ), Hector Bonilla (M. Butterfly ) and Luis Gatica (Evita ).
