The play is the inaugural work to be developed by the Human Race's Marsha Hanna New Play Workshops program. The initiative offers a residency opportunity for playwrights to develop new work with the support of a professional director and actors. It is named after late Human Race artistic director Hanna.
Margarett Perry (The Retreat from Moscow, God of Carnage) will stage the 2 PM readings on March 9 and 10 that feature Andrew Ian Adams, Kay Bosse, Jamie Cordes, Charity Farrell, Caitlin Larsen, Jacob McGlaun, Robin Post, Matthew Smith, Scott Stoney and K.L. Storer.
Slade has been working alongside Perry and the cast for the past two weeks, making revisions to the script in preparation for the public presentations.
Here's how it's billed: Gingerbread Children "weaves together four stories to uncover the hidden sexual violations inflicted upon children by their most trusted adults and the ways in which society, through religion and folk tales, tacitly condones multi-generation abuse."
