Let's Put on a Show, which is billed as a "multi-media live production," will be presented at the intimate nightspot Sept. 19 and 20. The 8:30 PM performances celebrate Mickey Rooney's 90th birthday.
"This endearing offering of tales from over 85 consecutive years in show business," according to press notes, "coupled with beautifully produced songs, has new and gorgeous orchestrations the likes of which have not been heard since the golden years of M-G-M."
Cabaretgoers can expect to hear such tunes as "Guess I'm Coming Down with the Blues," "We're Married," "Nothing Can Stop Me Now" and "Judy."
Mickey Rooney was Tony-nominated for Best Actor in a Musical in 1980 for his work in the vaudeville-burlesque revue, Sugar Babies, which was a smash on Broadway and on tour. In the early 1990s he was a replacement actor in Broadway's The Will Rogers Follies, playing Clem, the father of humorist Will Rogers.
His many film credits — for a time he was the No. 1 box-office star in the nation — include "Boys Town," "Strike Up the Band," "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (1935), "Girl Crazy," "Captains Courageous," "Breakfast at Tiffany's," "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World," "Pete's Dragon" and many more.
