News Miller, Birdsong, Brennan Will Return to NJ's Surflight for Anniversary Celebration Alumni of past seasons of Surflight Theatre in Beach Haven, NJ, will appear there Aug. 31 in Steps in Time: The Story of Surflight, a celebration of the 60th anniversary of the organization.

Broadway's James Brennan, Mary Birdsong and Roy Miller are among participants.

The show will include performances by Surflight alumni, a live onstage orchestra, video interviews with former actors and historic video footage. Steps in Time is produced and directed by Surflight alumnus (1978) Peter J. Downing, and "tells the story of one of the longest-running professional theatres in the country — from its first season in a tent one block from the beach to the year-round offerings of today in its new state-of-the-art theatre."

Alumni expected to appear are James Brennan (1967–71), star of Broadway's 42nd Street and Me And My Girl; Roy Miller (1975-78), producer of Broadway's West Side Story, The Drowsy Chaperone, and upcoming Ragtime revival, along with Bill Angstadt (1971-74); Mary Birdsong (1987-89) of Hairspray, Theatre World Award for Fame Becomes Me; Robin Blackburn-Ellis (1978); Paul DeLuca (1978–94); Grant Golson (2002, 2006); Lisa Hall (1976–78); TJ Kross (2000–03); Kendra Mara (1993–2000); Barbara Mundy (1969); Bruce Roberts (2006); Julie Rogelstad (1995, 2008); Walter Ryon (2003–present); Samantha Shafer (2008) of West Side Story; Candice Thompson (2000-2007); Mike Timoney (1975); and other Broadway performers still being lined up.

Miller said in a statement, "I am sure I speak for all Surflight alumni when I say that I will be forever indebted to Joe Hayes, Surflight's founder, for bringing Broadway to the beach 60 years ago, and to Surflight's current leadership for carrying on Joe's rich legacy."
