On three separate occasions (1990-91, 1992-93 and Sept. 96), Milwaukee audiences have taken a musical stroll through the early years of rock `n' roll, courtesy of Hula Hoop Sha-Boop, a revue created by Larry Deckel, John Leicht and John Tanner. Now Hula swings in once more as the 4th play of Milwaukee Rep's Stackner Cabaret season. The show opened March 6 for a run through April 27 (Rep spokesperson Allison Dall-Knox is already anticipating an extension). Songs in the nostalgic production include "The Twist," "Book Of Love," "Johnny Be Good," and "Da Doo Ron Ron."
Appearing in Hula are Jon Ford, Deborah Solomon, David Bonanno and Jacquelyn Ritz. Larry Deckel directs, with musical direction by John Tanner and choreography by Darci Brown Wutz. Deckel and Tanner have fashioned the vocal and instrumental arrangements. Designers for the show are John Story (set), Ellen Kozak (costumes) and Michael McNamara (lighting).
For tickets to Hula Hoop Sha-Boop at the Stackner Cabaret on the second floor of the Milwaukee Center on East Wills St., call (414) 224 9490.
