News Minnesota's Great River Shakespeare Begins Rep Season With Two Gentlemen of Verona June 20 The Great River Shakespeare Festival in Winona, MN, begins its ninth season of productions in the Upper Mississippi region on June 20 with the first preview of The Two Gentlemen of Verona, directed by Paul Barnes, the festival's artistic director.

The season also includes King Lear (beginning June 21), directed by James Edmondson of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival; and The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) by Jess Borgeson, Adam Long, and Daniel Singer, directed by Melissa Rain Anderson, beginning June 28.

The festival is also bringing author/director West Hyler, Kleban Award-winning composer Matt Schatz, and Jack Herrick of the Red Clay Ramblers to Winona for a week-long workshop of their new four-actor musical, Georama. The workshop will culminate with a public reading on July 29. Georama "tells the story of the little-known American painter, John Banvard, who created the first georama, a three-mile long painting of the Mississippi River."

Performances continue in rep through Aug. 5 in the Winona State University Performing Arts Center Theatre. GRSF's professional Equity company productions will be joined by its 2012 season Intern/Apprentice Company project, All's Well That Ends Well, directed by Frederic Barbour, for a nine-performance run beginning July 24.
