At the Tony Awards, after the statues are given to the winners, they are taken to the media room, where they speak to journalists about their prizes. Playbill was able to have some one-on-one time with some of the 2023 Tony winners. We spoke with Miriam Silverman after winning the prize for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Play for her work in the revival of The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window. 

Watch the video above to see Silverman react to winning, where she admits she doesn't remember what she said onstage at the Tonys (we remember, and it was marvelous). Silverman told Playbill that the award felt like "validation of a lot of years of work."

Silverman won the prize for her work as Mavis Parodus Bryson, a '60s housewife who frets over her free-spirited younger sister—continuing the role's trend of winning its actor a Tony Award. Alice Ghostly won for her performance in the role in the 1965 original production, with Frances Sternhagen winning for the 1972 revival. Silverman is aware of that history and she says that Lorraine Hansberry, in writing The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window, "she created some kind of magic in this role and in this play."

Silverman was previously seen on Broadway in the play Junk. When she is not acting, she is a professor at New York University.
