Ringwald will join the previously announced Jason Biggs and Craig Bierko in the new play Modern Orthodox. The Daniel Goldfarb work is set to begin performances Nov. 11 at the 499-seat Dodger Theatre at Worldwide Plaza. Opening night is scheduled for Dec. 6. Jason Biggs, who took part in the December reading of the Goldfarb comedy, will star as "lovable schmuck" Hershel Klein in the Off-Broadway production. James Lapine will direct the play, which concerns the effects Biggs' character has "on a young Jewish couple of lapsed faith."
Molly Ringwald made her Broadway debut as Sally Bowles in the Tony-winning revival of Cabaret and also appeared in last season's Enchanted April. She starred Off-Broadway in Jonathan Larson's tick, tick . . . BOOM!. Ringwald is best known for such films as "Pretty in Pink" and "Sixteen Candles."
Playwright Goldfarb has also written Adam Baum and the Jew Movie, which won the 2000 NY Newsday Oppenheimer Award, and Modern Orthodox has been optioned by Bob Balaban's Chicago Films. Goldfarb's Sarah, Sarah was presented at the Manhattan Theatre Club this past spring.
