News Monique Coleman to Star in Sonnet Repertory Theatre's The Maids Sonnet Repertory Theatre will present the The Maids, featuring "High School Musical" star Monique Coleman.

Performances begin Nov. 22 and continue through Dec. 1 at the Ford Foundation Studio Theatre at the Pershing Square Signature Center.

The Maids is written by Jean Genet and translated by Bernard Frechtman

Directed by Christopher Schilder, the cast includes Rosa Arredondo (A Streetcar Named Desire) as Madame, Coleman ("High School Musical") as Claire and Chinasa Ogbuagu as Solange.

Here's how the production is billed: "Set on a humid, late-summer night in the latter half playof the 1940s, this rendition of Jean Genet’s twisted tale of class rebellion evokes a context reminiscent of post-WWII New Orleans. The Maids, like many of Genet's works, tells the story of individuals desperate to break out of the suffocating confines they were born into — their only hope of escape being to take the imaginative leap into a part they were not born to play. As in life, happy endings are not guaranteed, but as many artists will attest, sometimes a daring act witnessed and applauded is just as satisfying."
