News MTC Inaugurates "After Words" Discussion at Translations Jan. 20 Theatre without discussion afterward is a little like dinner without dessert. Everybody likes a clarified palate.

In that spirit, Manhattan Theatre Club is launching its new "After Words" discussion series at the Biltmore Theatre.

Following the 2 PM Jan. 20 Broadway performance of Brian Friel's Translations, the inaugural "After Words" will feature director Garry Hynes, the Tony Award-winning director of Translations, and Dr. John P. Waters, New York University professor and specialist in Irish Cultural Studies.

The session will be moderated by MTC director of artistic operations Mandy Greenfield.

The series is part of MTC's "continuing effort to deepen and enrich the play-going experience for audiences."

Translations officially opens Jan. 25. In the weeks following, prominent writers, cultural critics, journalists, public figures and members of the Translations creative team will gather at the Biltmore Theatre following selected Saturday matinees to discuss the issues of history, language and colonialism raised by Friel's "powerful and provocative play about cultural identity, love and loss."

Panelists in the subsequent editions of "After Words: Translations" include Dr. John P. Harrington, editor of the Norton "Modern Irish Drama" and Dean of the School of Humanities at Rensselaer; author and performer Malachy McCourt ("A Monk Swimming," "Oz"); Pulitzer Prize-winning Irish poet Paul Muldoon; and best-selling author Nuala O'Faolain ("Are You Somebody?"). Specific dates will be announced shortly.

Ticket buyers to those Saturday matinee performances are welcome to stay for the discussion.
