News Mufti’s Day Before Spring, with Watkins, Adams and Bell, Begins York Run July 27 The Day Before Spring, the final offering in the summer Musicals in Mufti series, begins performances July 27 at the York Theatre Company.

Directed by David Glenn Armstrong, the Lerner and Loewe musical will be presented July 27 at 8 PM, July 28 at 2:30 and 8 PM and July 29 at 2:30 and 7:30 PM.

The cast features Amanda Watkins (Urinetown, Cabaret, Beauty and the Beast), Richard Todd Adams (The Pirate Queen, The Woman in White), Ed Watts (NYCO's The Most Happy Fella; Seven Brides for Seven Brothers tour), Hunter Bell ([title of show]) and Tia Speros (The Taffettas) with David Abeles (upcoming My Fair Lady tour), Summer Broyhill (Hairspray tour), Janine DiVita, Ashlee Fife (Encores! Follies; Chitty Chitty Bang Bang), Robyn Kramer (Paper Mill’s Pirates!), Daniel C. Levine (Rocky Horror, Jesus Christ Superstar, Chicago), Orville Mendoza (Adrift in Macao, Pacific Overtures), Lindsay Packard and Mark York (Sweet Charity, Busker Alley).

The creative team also includes Aaron Gandy (music director), Mark York (associate music director/pianist) and Daniel Haley (associate director).

The Day Before Spring features book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. The musical opened in 1945 at Broadway's National Theatre, which is now the Nederlander. Directed by Edward Padula, the cast included Lucille Benson, John Archer, Bert Freed and Irene Manning.

The musical, according to press notes, concerns a "married woman who, at a college reunion, meets the man with whom she almost eloped ten years before. She becomes so touched by a novel he has written about her, she considers leaving her husband and reuniting with this former love of hers." The Musicals in Mufti series offers rarely performed musicals in staged concert performances. "Mufti" means "in street clothes, without the usual trappings."

The fall 2007 Musicals in Mufti season, which will offer four shows, will begin Sept. 14.
