The company's artistic director Janey Clarke stages her play-with-music, which began Nov. 24 for a run at the venue's Theater A through Dec. 31. Warren Wills (Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill) serves as musical director.
Following a ten-week London run last year at the Warehouse Theatre, the work has the blessing of author Allen. "I love the idea of having my short pieces adapted by a skilful writer. It's very exciting," the company's website boasts.
Featuring original live jazz by Willis and lyrics by Clarke,Murder Mystery Blues is set in the world of 1940's film noir New York. "Private eye Kaiser Lupowitz has seen it all, then a dynamite brunette asks him to find the most elusive Guy in the whole of New York," reads show materials. "Soon Lupowitz cracks the case and, after dinner and drinks, sees through the mysterious femme fatale's disguise."
The cast of six features singer Mary Fahl (formerly of October Project), Andromeda Turre, Stephanie Dodd, Jeff Ganz, Alex Haven and Michael Murray — who also double as musicians to play the score.
